How do you calculate the correct Field of View? It’s really only the stuff you should be ignoring in the periphery of your vision that’s giving that warp-speed effect. When your field of view is set correctly, the game is essentially extending your viewing position into the game world. And, because both of these factors interact, your FOV will stay the same if you increase the size of your monitor as you move it away from the viewing position. Or, as you increase the size of the monitor, the field of view becomes wider. And, because we all have different gaming setups, the software can’t know how how far you are from the screen, and therefor how the field of view of the in-game camera should be set to make sure that there’s no disconnect between your in-game vision, and your real world vision. The problem is, your eyes aren’t glued to the screen, because your your dad beat you with jumper cables when you tried that as a kid.
